Chairperson, Equipment Manager, Graphic Designer, Event Manager and Communication Manager

What kind of art do you like?
I like to dabble with all kinds of creative things. I draw both traditionally and digitally. I sew clothes and sometimes do embroidery. I'm also planning a writing project with my friend. I like doing work that references things I love: fanart of a character that is stuck on my brain, emulating the style or composition of an old master or drawing historical clothes.

What do you study or work?
I'm studying chemistry for the 5th year and specializing in organic chemistry.

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
My all time favourite animator is Satoshi Kon and my favourite film from him is Perfect Blue. Even though it might not be everyone's cup of tea I think watching it is a really thought provoking experience.

My favourite colour
I don't remember when or why I chose the colour blue(#2A5CA6) as my favourite but I have had no reason to change it since it never disappoints. (I'm looking at you lime green, why I ever liked you is beyond me)

We often see art as a very individualistic thing that comes from deep within us, but we get a lot of inspiration and support from people around us and I think it's important to remember that sometimes what you need to break an artblock is a good chat with a friend.

Sampo Sääksvuori

Deputy chairperson, Deputy exhibition manager

What kind of art do you like?
I'm a writer myself, but it really is a love/hate relationship. Then again Visual arts are for me more about freedom and not thinking so much, like just letting go. Writing is about an endless process and not letting go. Does this make any sense? :D

What do you study or work?
I study archeology, so I'm digging in the dirt, literally. :)

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
Especially for students from abroad I would recommend to take a look into the art of Hugo Simberg (1873-1917). There just is something very deeply Finnish in his mystical paintings.

My favourite colour
Black, for it is truly a color with an infinite number of different shades.

I have a crush on the cultural anthropological manga "A Bride's Story" by Kaoru Mori. Strong recommendation!

Jutta Hukari

Fund manager, Membership manager, Exhibition Manager

What kind of art do you like?
Pre-raphaelite art is my favourite and I especially like the works of John William Waterhouse. I mostly paint by myself too. In general I adore lots of different styles of art and that’s why I think it’s so hard to commit to only one style :D

What do you study or work?
I’m a 3rd year student of History of sciences and ideas.

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
Everyone should at least once experience in person the magnificence of ancient Roman art and architecture. (That includes me cause I haven’t visited Italy or any place that belonged to the Roman empire… yet.)

My favourite colour
Blue in basically any shade, but if I have to choose one specific then maybe #99BFC6. Blue is a soothing color and to me it symbolizes freedom.

Mainly, I draw traditionally on paper. I like to use alcohol markers, like promarkers and copics, and also inks! Other artistic hobbies are sewing and sculpting. I like to draw really simple drawing and use a lot of colors! :) The inspiration I get from fashion photos and nature.

What do you study or work?
I study mathematics 5th year and specialicing on data science.

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
Older movies are really interesting and there is more thought put on the movies, so give them a chance! There’re a lot of quality movie on Mubi.

My favourite colour
There are three favorate color that are (orange)  7d4900,(Olive green) 767900 and (Lipstick red)ff2b33 and additionally (violet)896bff  :D I don’t know, they just look so good together but I can’t choose just one.

An advice for people that are new to Tapiiri: If you feel like it’s hard to get to know other people at the art circles, just keep coming to the meetings! :D Eventially we get to know you. Also, the meeting are not that serious and official as you might think, so try to relax.

Dániel Szabó

Data Protection Manager, Graphics Designer and Website Manager

What kind of art do you like?
Photography has been a long time hobby of mine, particularly street photography, architecture, portraits and analogue photography! Recently I have been addicted to taking photos with early 2000s digicams. I also really enjoy drawing and graphic design.

What do you study or work?
I am a first year MSc Computer Science and Engineering student and a Research Assistant at the ITEE faculty. I moved to Finland from Scotland in August 2022 and been enjoying life here a lot since :-)

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
I LOVE a movie with great cinematography. Blade Runner 2049, and the Grand Budapest Hotel are worth watching for the visuals alone.

My favourite colour
Recently I’ve been wearing and using a lot of pale green (#7db88d), I find it very relaxing. When I feel more bold, I love a good bright red (#f22930)

The only right way to do arts is the way you have the most fun.

Maaria Tuisku

Minion (Kätyri)

What kind of art do you like?
I love traditional art, so most of the time I’m using mediums such as watercolors and inks. In Tapiiri’s weekly meetings you’ll most probably see me sitting there hunched over a sketchbook, drawing dragons and other creatures.

What do you study or work?
I graduated in 2019, but I’m still hanging out with the people of Tapiiri. I studied Finnish language as my major subject and I’m teaching it to foreign learners.

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
I adore many artists, but one of my favorites is Björn Landström. He created beautiful illustrations for many books, and most Finns may recognize the cover of Mika Waltari’s Sinuhe the Egyptian. You should check out his other works too, especially that  old fairytale book Olipa kerran.

My favourite colour
Nothing soothes my soul better than different hues of dark blue (#17139b for example). Combine that with gold and you get the ultimate color combination.

I know we all sometimes feel like our art isn’t good enough, but don’t let the self-criticism ever stop you from creating. In case of an art block, just take your time, maybe study something new and try again when you’re ready. I also recommend saving your old works, those will be your best teachers some day.

Katariina Heikkinen

Minion (Kätyri)

What kind of art do you like?
I have no singular favorite, but i mostly work in digital art and occasionally doing some traditional stuff too!

What do you study or work?
I graduated at the beginning of 2023 from biology and now i´m currently looking for a job.

What art does everyone have to experience in their life?
*Insert something smart here because there is so many good artists i follow or know.* . Other board members have  some really good recommendations.

My favourite colour
It feels like everytime someone asks me this, i always give a different answer. Sometimes i favor smooth pastel colors like (#74D7C0) or (#9DD86A), but at times i realy like to work with really bright reds (#E12A2A) and deep blues (#1C246B).

Trust the process and trust yourself. Way too many times i have had serious doubts when working on stuff, but in the end noticed that things turned out fine. Many pieces can look really bad at some points, but i often need to remind myself that it is also part of the process.
